The problem
Most jobs are priced twice: once to win them, once to find out what they cost.
Rates go stale
The spreadsheet has last year's board price in it. Merchant quotes expire, and nobody updates every copy of the sheet, so the same job gets priced three different ways depending on which file you opened.
The allowances get forgotten
Waste, site overheads, preliminaries, supervision. Each one is small and easy to leave off under time pressure. Together they are usually the difference between a job that made money and one that did not.
Margin gets confused with markup
Adding 20% to cost is not a 20% margin. It is 16.7%. Get that wrong across a year of tenders and you have worked hard for someone else's benefit.
How it works

Keep your rates in one place
Materials, labour, plant and subcontract rates, with supplier prices dated so you can see what a board cost in March and what it costs now. One library, shared by everyone who prices work.
Measure the job
Enter quantities against the rates. Waste percentages come from the material, not from memory, so a 7.5% board allowance is applied whether you remembered it or not.
Set your margin, see the tender
Direct cost, then site overheads, then profit, then VAT, calculated the same way every time. Enter a target margin and it converts to the markup properly.
Issue the quotation
A quotation with the scope, exclusions, payment stages and terms attached, produced from the same figures you just priced. Revise it and the previous version is kept.
Where it actually is
An honest status, because you are being asked to wait for it.
FitForge is built on a calculation engine that already exists and is tested. This is not a landing page for an idea. But the part you would touch every day, the estimating screen itself, is still being built. Here is the real position.

Why we are telling you this
Every estimating product claims to do everything. You will find out within a week of using one whether that was true, and by then you have moved your rates into it. We would rather you knew now and decided with your eyes open. And if you join early, the gaps get filled in the order that founding users say they should be.

What is FitForge?
FitForge is estimating and commercial management software for UK trade contractors. It holds your material, labour and plant rates, prices measured work against them, applies waste, overheads and profit, and produces a quotation with the payment stages and terms attached.
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes. FitForge runs in a browser and installs to a phone's home screen as an app. Site measurements, notes and photographs can be captured without a signal and sync when you are back in range.
Do I have to use your rates?
No, and you should not. FitForge is built around your own rates and your own supplier prices. Published price books are a starting point at best. The whole point is that your estimate reflects what you actually pay.
Is my pricing data private?
Yes. Your rates and estimates are yours. They are not pooled, benchmarked, sold or used to train anything. Commercial rates are the most sensitive information a contractor has, and treating them as a data product would be a betrayal of the customer.
